Knee Injuries: Meniscal Tears
Meniscal tears are one of the most common knee injuries. The meniscus is a pad of cartilage that cushions the connection between the tibia and the femur. Sudden jarring movements, like those associated with sports, can tear the meniscus. Conversely, sometimes the meniscus is torn over time in the course of everyday actions.
In an article by the Mayo Clinic, Bruce Levy, M.D. recommends telling your doctor about any knee pain, accident-related or otherwise, so your doctor can determine whether or not your meniscus is damaged. X-rays and MRI’s are often used to get a better picture of the state of the meniscus when a doctor isn’t confident with a diagnosis otherwise.
However, Dr. Levy warns against flippantly signing up for these procedures, as they can be extremely costly. If you have been diagnosed with a torn meniscus, or have visited your doctor about knee pain, McCready Law can help make sure you are legally well represented.
