Hernia Mesh Lawsuit Help in 2021 – File Your Legal Claim Here

Mass Tort

Due to an injury or medical condition, organs may push through muscle, making it hard for the organ such as abdominal tissue to work as it should. This may also be caused by overexertion which causes weaknesses in muscles, leading to a condition known as a hernia. Left untreated, a hernia will continue to grow and in some instances, lead to serious health complications. Doctors are now able to treat abdominal hernias by using something called a hernia mesh which is meant to hold these organs in place as the muscle opening heals. Hernia mesh surgery is now commonplace due to the different varieties of effective hernia meshes in circulation. That said, hernia meshes have been shown to cause numerous complications and even tissue necrosis and puncture, which can threaten a patient’s life. One of the most common hernia meshes in use across the country is one made by pharmaceutical products company Bard, and while effective, has been shown to cause severe injury to the patient, something it is alleged that Bard knew about but failed to inform the general public about. If you were injured or developed complications after being implanted by the Bard hernia mesh, you may be eligible for substantial financial compensation, and we’re here to help.

Are you looking for a hernia mesh lawsuit attorney in 2021? The experienced defective medical products attorneys at McCready Law have over 90 YEARS of combined legal experience helping individuals just like you get the justice and compensation they deserve. Please call us NOW at (773) 741-0537 to learn more about your legal options for compensation after getting injured by an implanted Bard mesh. Hernia mesh trial updates in 2021 dictate that Bard’s first round in Bellwether trials have them on a favorable level after the judge ruled in the defendant’s favor. That said, this shouldn’t be something that should worry you as looking at history, Bard was still forced to compensate injured plaintiff after a second trial found them liable for the damages suffered by a patient back in 2010, and after it was ordered to pay over a billion dollars in settlement to the singular plaintiff, agreed to a settlement agreement doled out to each of the plaintiffs in each case. If you were injured by a Bard hernia mesh or developed complications requiring revision surgery, please reach out to our hernia mesh class action lawsuit attorneys NOW at (773) 741-0537 to receive your 100% FREE consultation into the possibility of joining ongoing litigation in order to recover compensation.

How Do Hernia Mesh Devices Work?

A hernia mesh is meant to support muscles that are damaged in order to help the surrounding tissue heal the weakened area. Hernia surgery almost always includes the implantation of hernia mesh, as seen in statistics which states that 90 percent of surgeries involving hernia feature this device.

Hernia meshes are very effective when it comes to preventing hernias from reoccurring because surgeons will sew the incision sites which then provide dual protection to the patient, thereby lowering chances that the hernia will come back in the future.

What are Hernia Meshes Made Of?

Hernia mesh can be made from different material, from plastic to degradable animal fat. The extent of the hernia as well as the patient’s propensity for developing the same may inform the physician’s decision to use a specific type of hernia. In some cases, doctors may opt to use a polypropylene mesh in order to provide permanent support for structures such as intestines, collagen, fatty acids and cellulose.

Hernia Mesh Risks and Complications

Here are some of the most common complications associated with hernia mesh:

  1. Adhesion

This refers to the hernia mesh sticking to body tissue in such a manner as to impede body tissue or organs. Adhesion is most commonly seen in the pelvis, abdomen and the heart, and scar tissue development may complicate the removal of said hernia. Adhesion may happen just days after surgery, and manufacturers may choose to coat the hernia mesh with material that is known to prevent adhesion. That said, hernia mesh made with polypropylene are more likely to adhere to body tissue, causing complications such as intestinal obstruction, bleeding and perforation.

  1. Hernia Implant Erosion

Once a hernia is repaired, the mesh is supposed to degrade over time and be absorbed by the body. While this process is expected to happen over a number of years, it is not uncommon for the same to happen just days after hernia mesh surgery, due to things such as the immune system attacking the hernia mesh, device migration, or the use substandard material when it comes to the creation of hernia mesh.

  1. Bowel Obstruction

Perhaps one of the most serious complications associated with hernia mesh is bowel obstruction which happens when an implanted mesh blocks the large or small intestines. This then causes liquids and foods to stop moving through the intestines so it can be digested and absorbed. This may lead to food rotting in the intestines, causing tissue around it to rot consequently, presenting severe complications to the patient such as bloodstream sepsis within a short amount of time.

Hernia Mesh Lawsuits in 2021 – What Are The Allegations?

It is alleged that the defective design that features in Bard hernia mesh is what caused and continues to cause the many complications experienced by individuals that had the device implanted into them.  Manufacturers are required under law to use care when it comes to designing and manufacturing their products in order to keep you, the customer, safe. Failure to do so constitutes negligence, and the breach of this duty of care can entitle you to substantial mesh lawsuit compensation in the form of money damages.
