What Exactly Is Caput Succedaneum?

Caput succedaneum refers to skull swelling in a newborn which ostensibly gives the child’s head a cone head shape. While this abnormality resolves after a few days, it can potentially cause permanent neurological harm to the child’s brain. In addition, children who develop this condition are more likely to develop jaundice due to the release of excess bile in the body by the liver, which can then go on to wreak havoc on multiple organ systems.
