Biden Signs COVID-19 Work Safety Order

President Biden recently signed an Executive Order which would protect the safety and health of workers across the country. In his statement, he reiterated that it was his Administration’s policy to make sure that all workers are protected from the virus. He intimated that the federal government must put forth science-based solutions to ensure that workers are all kept safe.

OSHA Regulations to Enforce COVID-19 Rules

From the President’s speech, it appears that federal bodies such as OSHA will have an active role when it comes to making sure that employers take certain key steps to ensure worker safety. In particular, the directive singled out mask wearing while at work as one of the most important steps one can take to prevent infection.

Prior to this directive, OSHA was relying on temporary emergency regulations issued by the Trump Administration, specifically the regulations and the General Duty Clause, Section 5(a)(1) of the OSHA  Act which implored employers to make sure that workers have access to a safe and healthy workplace free from serious recognized hazards.
