I Was Injured By a Peloton Treadmill – Your Legal Options
Peloton is a well-known exercise subscription service that comes bundled with an aggressively marketed treadmill. It has achieved massive success since its launch in 2012 as it has enabled people to work out with experienced trainers from the comfort of their homes without having to worry about keeping up with other individuals at the gym. While effective, Peloton treadmills haven’t been without controversy: in 2020, a Peloton recall was issued when it was discovered that the clip-in bike pedals were breaking and detaching, causing over a dozen injuries. Earlier this year, the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall notice for Peloton treadmills after it was discovered that the touch screen on the treadmill could come off, falling onto the tread and causing injuries to consumers.

Peloton Recall 2020 and 2021
Peloton just recently recalled over 125,000 treadmills that belong to the Peloton Tread+ and Treadmills range after a child died and 70 other individuals were injured while using said treadmills. Peloton curiously refused to recall their treadmills in April even after CPSC issued a notice regarding their dangers, putting people at risk. The company later backtracked, claiming it had made a mistake in their initial CPSC recall request. However, the federal agency revealed that the announcement was due to intense negotiation with Peloton executives.
The recalled Peloton treadmills are:
- Peloton Tread+, going for $4,295
- Peloton Tread, going for $2,495
CPSC went on to add that the accidents and injuries involving the Peloton machines include people getting pinned and pulled under the devices, as well as children getting entrapped by the machine, and the government agency also released a treadmill video showing how the injuries happen, especially for children.
