Silicosis and Industrial Workers – What are My Legal Rights?

Industrial Accidents

Industrial and skilled trade workers make up the backbone of America. If it weren’t for these individuals, we wouldn’t enjoy the modern conveniences that we take for granted on a daily basis. Unfortunately however, these individuals are exposed to a number of noxious substances, some of which can leave lasting effects on organs such as the lungs and the kidneys. One such substance that industrial workers in Chicago and other cities and states are exposed to is silica, or fine sand which has many industrial uses and is employed in a number of industrial processes, making it next to impossible to not come into contact with. That said, work safety agencies such as OSHA require that workers coming into close contact with silica don protective gear such as respiratory masks in order to limit or eliminate exposure. Silica exposure, if sustained for a long time, can cause silicosis which is a chronic lung disease that can manifest as CODP, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease which is disabling and has no cure.

Are you an industrial worker or heavy machine worker that was continuously exposed to silica and now have to deal with the fallout of said exposure? Please contact our silicosis COPD attorneys NOW at (773) 825-3605 to learn more about your legal options for compensation. In these kinds of cases, it’s never enough to have workers’ compensation as there are issues of long-term care you want to consider which is almost always costly and may not be covered completely by workers’ compensation. The attorneys at McCready Law have helped thousands of people get worker benefits after getting exposed to toxic substances occupationally over the decades, and our combined 90 YEARS of experience is proof enough that we’re doing something right. We take on all cases on contingency fee basis, which basically means that we don’t charge you a cent until we recover compensation on your behalf. Please contact our silicosis attorneys NOW at (773) 825-3605 to learn more about your legal options for compensation. Serving silicosis victims countrywide.

Silicosis is a form of respiratory illness that can be fatal if not managed in a timely manner. It occurs due to the inhalation of silica dust which tends to be extremely fine. Silica, under a microscope, features jagged edges which when inhaled create tiny but significant cuts in one’s lungs which over time leads to inflammation and the development of COPD, a chronic lung disease that can overwhelm and disable an individual.

The following professions are at an increased risk of developing silicosis:

  1. Machinists
  2. Hand molders or shapers
  3. Casting machine operators
  4. Mining machine operators
  5. Stonemason
  6. Construction laborers
  7. Grinding and crushing machine operators
  8. Oven or kiln operators
  9. Crane operators
  10. Roof bolters
  11. Rock drillers

Silicosis can also potentially develop into lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic bronchitis, scleroderma, and other severe lung illnesses. If you believe that your employer flouted OSHA safety laws causing you to be exposed to an unreasonable level of silica, you may be able to file a legal claim to help cover things like past and future medical care, lost wages, pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life and so much more. Please contact us NOW at (773) 825-3605 to learn more about how to file a claim for your silicosis condition. Thanks, and we look forward to helping you.
