Defective Space Heaters – Why Do They Catch Fire?

Space heaters of this kind are thought to overheat due to design defects that are usually caught during product design. It is thought that most electric space heaters sold tend to have poor temperature control, leading to overheating, which in turn causes the housing unit to melt and catch fire. A lot of the time, these heaters are left unattended or tucked away in a discreet corner of the room, making it more likely for the fire that is started by these heaters to spread furiously.

Electric Space Heaters are Major Cause of Fires During Winter

A report penned by Harvard University Environmental Health & Safety Group states that 25,000 house fires are started by portable space heaters every year, which in turn cause 6,000 injuries. Nationwide, 30 percent of all house fires happen during winter, with experts conceding that space heaters are the leading reason for the occurrence of these fires.
